What Is Sloped Roofing?

As a property manager, you know that the roof is one of the most important components of your commercial building and it’s essential that it keeps your tenants, their customers, and all equipment safe and secure from rain, snow or sleet. Installing, replacing or repairing commercial roofs is a major investment in your property, so you can rest assured that there will be minimal or no impact to your tenants.

At Signature Exteriors, we like to be well-versed in all things roofing, as well as keeping up with commercial exteriors and what's best for each business. Roofing can be flat or sloped, and there are advantages for each type.

A "flat" roof has very little pitch (think of any Costco or Home Depot). For the most part, you will not be able to view a "flat" roof from the ground.  Sloped roofing is anything that is not flat. They use two completely different types of materials (flat roofs must have a water barrier; whereas pitched needs a water shedding surface).

Let's start with some of the benefits of sloped roofing:

  • Many find the traditional aesthetic of sloped roofing to give a more homey feel.
  • Sloped roofing is far more effective when dealing with excessive weather as well, including heavy rain and heavy snowfall. The roof works to direct the water away from the home and leaves little chance of standing water finding a home above the house.
  • If you live in a place that suffers through extreme weather conditions often, a sloped roof is your best option to make sure you are covered for many years.
  • Sloped roofs tend to be more durable than other options, as they are built to withstand stronger conditions.
