Roofing Wednesdays: Vancouver Convention Centre
The Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre has a green roof – and it's the largest one in North America. This sustainable initiative was created by the Seattle-based architecture firm LMN Architects, who designed the 5-acre living roof that incorporates over 400,000 indigenous plants.
It also provides a "natural habitat to birds, butterflies, insects, small mammals, and bees (that produce honey for the center’s kitchen!). The layers of the structure act as an insulator, reducing heat gains in summer and heat losses in winter, as well as contribute to the building’s stormwater utilization."
