The "Hobbit House" in Vancouver, B.C. is an 83-year-old "faux thatched-roof home" designed by architect Ross Lort. Because the rainy climate of Vancouver doesn't allow for real thatched roofs, this is made from cedar shingles. The heritage department lists the 2,416-square-foot home as "storybook style" architecture, which was especially popular in the '20s and '30s.
