Seattle architect Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig Architects is particularly known for his use of unpainted wood, green roofs, and buildings that blend into their surroundings. Pole Pass Retreat is a residential cabin in the Pacific Northwest in which the top-floor bedroom has a view of the 54-by-24-foot green roof and the Pacific Ocean beyond. The roof, which stretches out over the kitchen deck, incorporates radiant-heat panels.
